Connections …that's what we call the small groups of people who get together on a regular basis throughout our community.
What's the purpose of a Connections group?
The core of the Christian life is relationship. We were designed to live in relationship with God and other people. God uses other people to challenge and encourage us in our relationship with Him. One of the best ways that happens is for people to get together in small groups and connect with one another in meaningful fellowship. So, small groups exist to help you connect with other people and to grow in your relationship with God.
How often do groups meet and where?
Most of Horizons' Connection groups meet twice a month. They take place in a host home or the Horizons campus and are led by a small group facilitator. The typical meeting lasts for 75 minutes, followed by an informal time of interaction with snacks or dessert. Childcare is offered at select Connection groups.
What's the atmosphere like in a small group?
Casual…informal…fun! Both the facilitator and host do their best to make you feel as comfortable as possible. You choose how little or how much you want to talk. The meeting time features fun “ice-breaker” type questions, as well as discussion focused on a particular topic and/or Bible passage. You will interact with others about real life questions and issues.
How are groups formed?
You may sign up for a group that best meets your needs and desires. Your choice might be influenced by where the host home is located, the topic to be discussed, whether or not childcare is available, or any number of other factors. Sometimes a specific group may be limited to certain criteria (example: a group for young married couples). Unless otherwise indicated, groups are mixed with both singles and married people participating.
How much does it cost?
Small groups are free! However, If you choose a group that offers childcare, you will be asked to donate toward the cost of paying the babysitter (usually just a couple dollars per night). Some groups ask participants to purchase a book related to the topic for the group. And you'll be asked to sign up to bring snacks/dessert for your group once or twice.
